Barbara and Richard Leyden

I am forever grateful for the excellent education I received at North Dakota State
University. The basic and advanced musical skills, educational methods and
conducting have served me well over a long career in teaching, performing and
liturgical music ministry. Charlotte Trautwein saw my potential as a freshman
changing majors from Home Economics to music and first nurtured my talent at
NDSU. She and Jack started my study of elementary and secondary music
education, providing a solid foundation upon which to build with additional
certifications and advanced degrees. My husband Richard and I endow this
scholarship in thanksgiving and recognition of their contributions to the NDSU
Music Department and the music education profession. May this scholarship
support the development of more fine teachers of music.
