Edwin and Barbara Zimmermann
Edwin and Barbara Zimmermann both attended NDSU in the early 1950’s. Edwin earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering, while Barbara studied Home Economics. After graduation Edwin worked for Chrysler Corporation and retired in 1993 as Executive Vice-President of New Venture Gear, a joint venture of Chrysler and General Motors that manufactured power train components for automobiles. They felt their college educations were a key element in their successful careers and they wanted to give something back to society. They decided to assist intelligent, hardworking students with financial need get an education in Mechanical Engineering. Mechanical Engineers are needed to develop most of the devices that improve living conditions and make life more enjoyable, so it seemed like a good skill to encourage to aid our society.
