Gauge Wyatt Niemeier Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is given in memory of Gauge Wyatt Niemeier, son of Trent and Brandi Niemeier, who passed away in infancy after a courageous battle with a congenital heart condition. During Gauge’s short life, he brought to light the many challenges young parents face when managing university studies, no matter the health status of their child(ren). Furthermore, Gauge evoked in others remarkable kindness and generosity. Brandi was a student at NDSU during Gauge’s life and completed her Ph.D. in Human Development in May-2011. Both Trent and Brandi were overwhelmed by the support of staff and faculty at NDSU and from the Fargo community. In gratitude and to continue the celebration of Gauge’s life, they have created this scholarship to support other parents who are pursuing studies at NDSU while raising a child or children. Trent and Brandi wish for this scholarship to be awarded to a deserving parent who enrolls in at least eight credits per semester, renewable when the parent continually demonstrates progress toward degree completion. Trent and Brandi hope that the award will offer support and encouragement to those who are courageously completing coursework while fulfilling the very important role of parenting.
