Gordon Olschlager Scholarship
Gordon Olschlager has established a scholarship fund for an Architecture or Landscape Architecture student to support a lifelong passion he held for the transformative power of design excellence to enhance our nation’s quality of life. Mr. Olschlager’s projects were often public-private partnerships that included people-oriented, public open space and the preservation of our nation’s important cultural resources.
An important component of that passion was a commitment to public service. In Minneapolis Mr. Olschlager served on the City’s Heritage Preservation Commission and the Board of the Friends of Christ Lutheran Church, a non-profit group dedicated to the preservation of Eliel Saarinen’s National Historic Landmark structure in Minneapolis. He was responsible for the preservation of the Minneapolis Armory and neighborhood Art Deco movie theaters and buildings in the Minneapolis Warehouse National Register Historic District. Mr. Olschlager chaired the American Institute of Architects Historic Resources Committees in Minneapolis and Los Angeles. In Los Angeles he served on the Angelino Heights Historic District Design Review Board, and was a Board Member of the Los Angeles Historic Investment Fund. He provided pro bono design services for the restoration and preservation of structures at the Wells County Fair Grounds (A National Register Historic District) in his hometown of Fessenden, North Dakota throughout his career.
