Linz Family
George M. Linz was a Research Wildlife Biologist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Wildlife Research Center (NWRC) from 1987-2015 and was stationed in Bismarck, North Dakota for much of his career. George earned a BS and MS in biology from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. in Zoology from North Dakota State University (NDSU). George was hired as a Project Leader and was initially stationed at the Denver Wildlife Research Center (now NWRC) headquarters then two years later was transferred to a newly established NWRC field station in North Dakota. George and colleagues authored 268 publications on the ecology and management of blackbirds and European starling. He was the senior editor for a book titled ‘Ecology and Management of Blackbirds in North America’. Over the course of his career, George served as Study Director and Major Advisor or Co-Advisor for 35 graduate students. He was awarded the Professional Wildlife Award by the Central Mountain and Plains Section of the Wildlife Society. George and his wife Linda spend time on their hobby farms in Pennsylvania and North Dakota where they have nearly 100 bird houses, 20 owl boxes, and plant food plots and trees to enhance habitat for wildlife.
