Matthew Burkholder Theatre Scholarship

Matt Burkholder was a gifted theatre artist, a generous collaborator, and an inspiration to anyone who had the opportunity to work with him. Matt earned his BFA in Theatre in 2005, completing a journey that included a decade long detour as an actor in Boston and NYC. During his second residency at NDSU he was invited to serve a a director for the main stage season production of George Bernard Shaw’s St Joan. Matt enhusiastically mentored his younger ‘classmates’ and his love of theatre was an inspiration to them. In 2011 he graduated from the University of Alabama with a Master of Fine Arts Degree and was selected as the most outstanding theatre student that year. He returned to Fargo and was active in the theatre scene with adjunct teaching assignments at MSUM and Concordia, as well as teaching for Trollwood and directing their Second Stage program at Theatre B. He was selected as an ensemble member at Theatre B, directing and acting for the company until the time of his death. He is remembered for his wit, his artistry, his zest for life, and his great laugh.
