Moore Engineering, Inc.
The Moore Engineering, Inc. Founders Scholarship honoring Clifford “Kip” Moore and Marshall Moore honors two founders whose careers embodied professional excellence and service to the engineering industry, the company they built, their communities, and their families.
A Fargo native and North Dakota State University graduate in civil engineering, Kip Moore dedicated his career to civil engineering leadership and professional service across North Dakota. He served as president of the North Dakota Consulting Engineers Council, Chapter Four of the North Dakota Society of Professional Engineers, and the West Fargo Chamber of Commerce, in addition to serving as secretary on the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors of North Dakota. He and business partners privately funded, designed, built, and managed a toll bridge over the Red River for 25 years.
Marshall Moore graduated from NDSU in 1951 with a degree in civil engineering. He combined engineering practice with distinguished public service, including four years as an F-84 fighter-jet pilot in the U.S. Air Force, followed by service in the National Guard and Reserve Officers Association as a Lt. Colonel. He was employed by the Wisconsin Highway Department, where he worked on the design of the interstate highway from Eau Claire to St. Paul. Marshall represented District 44 for six years in the North Dakota House of Representatives, was appointed by President George H.W. Bush as state director for the Farmers’ Home Administration and was appointed by Governor Ed Schafer as director of the North Dakota Department of Transportation.
Together, the brothers founded Moore Engineering in 1960, a respected civil engineering firm that has successfully completed thousands of projects – creating economic opportunity, connecting people and places, guiding growth, and enhancing sustainability for the next generation. Moore Engineering’s mission statement, “Improving lives by building strong communities,” is rooted in the values Marshall and Kip instilled in their company from inception. Building strong communities – internal and external, far and near – was elemental to how they managed their company.
The Moore brothers’ legacy reflects a lifelong commitment to advancing infrastructure, professional integrity, and community involvement. This scholarship supports civil engineering students at North Dakota State University specializing in transportation who share that same dedication to service and
impact.
The Moore Engineering, Inc. Scholarship Endowment reflects the firm’s mission of improving lives by building strong communities by supporting thoughtful, responsible engineering. It supports students pursuing Civil or Environmental Engineering degrees at North Dakota State University and helps prepare future engineers to serve communities with integrity, accountability, and purpose.
As a community-focused, employee-owned engineering firm that is part of the Vistal enterprise, Moore Engineering believes strong infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and ethical practice are essential to long-term business and community success. By investing in students who demonstrate
academic achievement, financial need, and regional ties to North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota, the firm reinforces its commitment to the people and places it serves.
Moore Engineering is a champion for engineering and a force for positive, progressive change in the world. Our work creates economic opportunity, connects people and places, guides growth, and stewards sustainable communities. This scholarship supports students dedicated to public service,
professional excellence, and building a stronger future for the communities they will one day serve.
