Palmer and Sheryl Holden Animal Science Scholarship

Dr. Palmer Holden graduated from North Dakota State University in 1965 a with a B.S. degree
in Animal Science. He then went to Iowa State University for master’s (1967) and Ph.D. (1970) degrees in Animal Nutrition. After serving in Vietnam with the U.S. Army, he was an Iowa State University Extension swine nutritionist for 31 years. This allowed him, and often his wife Sheryl, to visit many countries presenting seminars and meeting with local pork producers and industry people in Europe, SE Asia and Latin America. Palmer also traveled with Iowa State University students to Mexico and Thailand. He has visited 39 countries and Sheryl 27.

“We believe encouraging students visit other countries gives them a fresh perspective on other cultures and a greater appreciation of being able to grow up in the United States. Hopefully the students will enjoy foreign travel and cultures
