William and Nancy Haring Instrumental Music Endowed Scholarship

William and Nancy Haring Instrumental Music Endowed Scholarship

William J. Haring began his relationship with the NDSU Music Department in the fall of 1970. A graduate of Sargent Central High School, Forman, ND, little did he know when he enrolled, the tremendous impact that his decision in the late fall of 1970 to enroll in the NDSU bands would have on his life. By spring quarter of 1971, he had made the decision to enroll as a music education major. Under the tutelage of Orv Eidem, who he considers a lifelong mentor, and the rest of the NDSU music faculty, he received the skills, knowledge and guidance that produced a nearly quarter century music education career in Wilmot, SD; Langford SD; West Fargo ND; and Forest Lake MN. Many other parts of his 42-year public education career were significantly influenced by his degree work at NDSU. He holds an MA Degree from University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN.
In 1981, he was a founding member of the NDSU Gold Star Alumni Band and Scholarship Builders Fund. This was his first effort to pay tribute back to the NDSU Band Program. He continues to serve as the group’s Executive Secretary.
Bill and his wife, Nancy, continue to derive enjoyment from and great pride in the NDSU Music Department and are supportive Bison Fans and Team Makers. They hope their contribution will benefit fine arts and music education students long into the future.
